Discontinued League Competitions
THE KADASL HAS ALWAYS TAKEN PRIDE IN ITS INNOVATION, OPENESS TO CHANGE AND 'BETTER TO TRY AND FAIL ETC' ATTITUDE. HERE ARE SOME THAT ARE A PART OF OUR HISTORY EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE LESS SUCCESFUL THAN PLANNED.
RECORDS SHOW 3 DISCONTINUED COMPETITIONS: (1) THE INTER-CLUB (2) THE TSB SPONSORED TOP CLUB TROPHY AND (3) THE GUARDIAN CUP WHICH WAS AN INVITATIONAL COMPETITION FOR THE TOP LEAGUE PLAYERS ONLY. THE KNUTSFORD GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER SPONSORED IT AND MOBBERLEY VICTORY HALL CLUB PROVIDED THE TROPHY. IT WAS LATER REPLACED BY THE NON-LEAGUE RUN CHESHIRE COUNTY NEWSPAPERS OPEN COMPETITION THAT DREW IN HIGH CLASS NATIONAL PLAYERS.
AT THE END OF THE 2017-8 SEASON THE LEAGUE, DUE TO FALLING ENTRY NUMBERS, RATIONALISED THE EXISTING COMPETITIONS BY PUTTING ON HOLD THE 3 PLAYER, YOUNG PLAYER, ALTERNATE PAIRS, SID JONES LEGENDS & TAYLOR TROPHY (THE LATTER 2 WERE COMBINED FOR A TAYLOR JONES LEGENDS OVER 60'S COMP). THEY MAY RETURN SHOULD THE LEAGUE EVER GROW.

TSB Top Club TrophyThis was a similar attempt to the 'Inter-Club competition' by the committee to ‘spread the load’ of winners in a period where there were only the 4 available.
This, too, failed to take off and was abandoned after just two seasons. 1983-4 Mobberley 1984-5 Wilmslow Cons Inter Club CompetitionThis was a competition where each club chose a combination of players from each their teams. The idea being that it would weaken the stronger clubs and strengthen the weaker clubs (because you’d have, say, 2 A team players, 2 B team, 1 C team and 1 D team player making up a team rather than 6 A team players).
However, the make-up of the league clubs meant that with only 2 clubs having 4 teams in the league, some clubs either failed to enter, didn’t feel they could enter a strong enough team or the status quo of Mobberley / Mere winning was reached too quickly. The format and competition was abandoned after just 3 seasons. 1981-2 Mobberley 1982-3 Mobberley 1983-4 Mobberley 1984-5 Mobberley |
